The one most often seen is probably the flat weight bench. As the name suggests, the flat bench is simply a long, narrow bench. This type of bench is appropriate for exercises such as the bench press and dumbbell press. The type of bench helpful for exercises such as the shoulder press is the vertical bench. It helps the person exercising keep the correct position by providing enough back support. Composed of two main pieces it resembles a chair.
Powerlifters lift the heaviest weights in the world. The world record for bench press is held by a powerlifter, not a bodybuilder. It then makes sense from a purely common sense stand point to model what this group of people do. Secondarily, the science backs it. Training in a lower rep range (which we will go in depth on below) works for strength and power, which is exactly what we are looking for.
For people who constantly transfer from one workspace to another, moving a bench would be a lot easier if the bench is equipped with folding legs. Can you imagine all the difficulties involved in moving a huge, working bench with fixed legs? Every part has a function. That is an age-old diction. And its true. So the ideal legs for your bench would depend on what type of work you are going to do. If you will do demanding tasks that will require you to put heavy objects on your bench, then solid and fixed legs would be perfect. But if your work will demand you to transfer from one workspace to another from time to time, then you should consider getting folding legs for your work bench.
