Q&A With Terry White
BS: Quite a fancy title you have with Adobe. Can you please explain to our followers what exactly your work entails?
Terry White: As the Adobe Worldwide Creative Suite Design Evangelist I travel the globe doing conferences, seminars and shows showing Adobe’s Creative Suite Design products such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to potential customers and those considering upgrading.
BS: How did you become such a mastermind in the industry you’re in? How does it feel to be the “go-to” person in regards to such prominent subjects? Have you always known that this would be the career path you would take?
Terry White: I’ve always had a “techie” brain. I grew up watching science fiction and always hoped that I would have a career in the computer field. I’m mostly self taught and always take the approach to learning new things that “the person who designed this didn’t want it to be hard to learn/use.” With that in mind I always think things are possible even if they may not be.
BS: What are the setbacks you encounter on a daily basis? How do you overcome them?
Terry White: Often I feel like technology is both moving too slow and sometimes too fast. This means that with each new gadget or piece of software I’m wanting it to do more. However, at the same time things do move fast and it means having to learn more, faster. I overcome this mostly by constantly reading and checking out the work of others.
BS: Are there many individuals within the industry who are of Black decent who have such eminent roles as you?
Terry White: Unfortunately, no or at least not that I come across often.
BS: What is the greatest achievement of yours yet? What do you wish to further accomplish?
Terry White: I would have to say becoming a best selling author. I never thought that I would ever write a book, let alone more than one.
BS: Please share any advice you can to future leaders within the Black community.
Terry White: Stick to the things that you are passionate about and that drive you. Study others. Take every chance you can to learn more about what you’re interested in. I attend seminars all the time and only see a few people here and there from the Black community. I often wonder why we don’t take these opportunities to learn more?
